Introduction:-

Friends of Peace and Development Organization (FPDO) a Sudanese voluntary non-governmental organization (NGO), non- Profit, concerned with promotion of peace, development and mine action. The organization commenced its activities on 19th, March, 2003.

Objectives:

  1. Propagation of peace culture based on peaceful co-existence, equality and unity among all Sudanese.
  2. Help in building a healthy society that lives in peace and freedom
  3. Work towards building and developing the society socially and economically.
  4. Assist people with disabilities related to war victims, by working jointly towards building their capacity and confidence in civil society.
  5. Work towards enhancement of potentials of the civil society and spreading of trust among all factions of communities.
  6. Fight against mines through; data collection, detection, mine awareness, demining, victim assistance and rehabilitation of the displaced. In addition to taking  part in monitoring adherence to Ottawa Agreement with regards to transport, storage and demolition of mines.
  7. Work towards development and rehabilitation of less developed areas, such as discovering new water resources, establishing health facilities and fighting HIV/AIDS.
  8. Explore all possible means to boost and achieve the organization’s objectives.

Main Interventions and Activities:

  1. The organization has effective and efficient   members, with great potential to execute different projects. The organization endeavors with other civil society organizations, local and foreign, to help the society live in better conditions in order to enjoy the values of freedom, justice, equality, democracy and other human rights.
  2. Preparations are under way to uplift the organization’s capacity, via co-operating aid from donors, and partnership with international organizations to gain more experience. More so, the organization manage to prepare various projects in advocacy, Capacity Building, healthy drinking water, women issues, children, refugees,  IDPs, HIV/AIDS and Peace building programmes
  3. The organization’s Broad of Trustees consist of the president, General. Mohamed Abdulla Ewaida, and the Executive Director Maj. General (PsC) Zaki Al-Jack Jailani. The latter is active in the field of voluntary and humanitarian activities.
  4. The organization had successfully conducted three emergency Mine Risk Education programmes in the IDPs Camps of Omdurman, Khartoum, Juba, Abeyei, and Kassala, funded by the UNICEF in cooperation with National Mine Action Office. These projects took place from (1st, July, 2003 to 30th, September, 2006).
  5.  MRE refreshing course with Care Organization in IDPs camps of Omdurman and Khartoum, from (18/8 to 24/8/2004).
  6. MRE training course for Save the Children UK for 267 teachers in 2005.
  7. 4th Mine Risk Education programme in the IDP camps of Khartoum, Khartoum North, Kassala, and Hamoshkorabe for 12 months which ended in October 2007.
  8. The program of Sudan Information Campaign for Returnees (SICR) in Khartoum from (March 2007 – January 2010).
  9. Project on Rehabilitation of War Survivors in Ceramic Tiling in Khartoum (December 2007 – June 2008).
  10. Program of HIV/AIDS Awareness at the IDP’s Camps of Kassala (November 2007- February 2008).
  11. Program of HIV/AIDS Awareness at the IDP’s Camps of Khartoum (December 2007-June 2008).
  12. Mine Risk Education program in the IDP’s camps of Khartoum, Khartoum North, Kassala, (El-Shagarab area) North Darfur and El-Fashir for 12 months (ended in April 2009).
  13. Explosives Remnants of War (ERWs) in the IDP’s camps of El-Fashir North Darfur for 6 months which was suspended in November 2009.

Other Activities: 

FPDO is selected as the MRE coordinator in SCBL, and a member of the advisory group for (MRE) in the UNMAO. The Organization participated in almost all the meetings and conferences held by UNMAO/NMAC and Mine Action abroad:

  1.  NAIROBI SUMMIT for World Free of Mines (2004).
  2. State Parties Mine Action Conference in Geneva (2005).
  3. In the field of Victim Assistance, the Organization participated in many activities and workshops.  4 members of FPDO attended the International Conference for the Rights and dignity of people with disability in (January 2005 and August 2006) in New York.
  4. FPDO participated in the celebration of UN-Mine Action day consecutively from the 4th, April, 2006-to 2009. It organized and participated in the event by displaying MRE banners, holding exhibitions and presentation of MRE messages by school children.
  5. FPDO organized the 1st Campaign of Information Day on Mines Awareness in Jabal  Awlia IDPs camp in Khartoum under the tasking  by UNMIS/UNICEF/UNMAO, (29/1/2007).
  6. FPDO also organized a 2nd Information Day on Sudan Information Campaign for Returnees (SICR) in Khartoum (18/3/2007).
  7. FPDO attended a conference in Syria titled: “Risks of Land Mines & Explosive Remnants of War”(13-17 March 2007).
  8. FPDO arranged two separate Information Programmes, at The University of Medical Sciences and Technology, at Rashid Diab Art Center.
  9. In (May 2007), FPDO/MRE group coordinated with UNMAO in TOT MRE sessions for teachers in Darfur to integrate the MRE program in the national educational cycle
  10. The organization also conducted an information campaign for voluntary return at IDPs of Jabal Awlia in Khartoum from (11th, March -15th, May 2007). The task was funded by UNICEF.
  11. FPDO attended State Parties Conference of Mine Action in Oman-Jordan held from the 16th-23rd, November 2007
  12. In 2008, FPDO attended the State Parties Mine Action Conference held in Geneva.
  13. FPDO conducted information campaign for voluntary return for IDPs in Fateh area on 14th, June, 2008. The task was funded by UNICEF.
  14. The Executive Director Mr. Zaki El Jack participated in the Transitional Plan for Mine Action Programme from UN to NMAC (GOS) by 2011
  15. FPDO attended a Victim’s Assistance management course, in Nairobi, Kenya (9th, to 13th, March 2009).
  16. FPDO is conducting different projects on, HIV/AIDS, MRE, Reproductive Health, Peace Building and Civic Voter Education in kassala.
  17. On 7th January 2009, Mr. Zaki El Jack the E.D and Madam Wafa Mohamed Ali FPDO senior staff members were awarded the Humanitarian Gold Medal by Virginia Institute for Peace (U.S.A) for their efforts in Sudan.
  18. In November 2009, the Executive Director Mr.Zaki El Jack was declared an Ambassador for peace at Universal Peace federation-USA.
  19. In November 2009, the Executive Director Mr.Zaki El Jack was participating at the State Parties Conference held in Colombia.
  20. Many Capacity building workshops and sessions are continuously held i.e. (Proposals, Report Writing, Accounting, Programme Management and many others important subjects).
